About Nicola

Well Nourished Mama was founded by Nicola Manford (BSc, dipCNM, mANP), fuelled by a passion to support mums and mums-to-be to feel their best. Nicola believes that what we eat has a direct impact on how we feel, both physically and mentally. Motherhood is hard on the body – growing, carrying and giving birth to a tiny human is not an easy feat. Once baby is born the real work starts and mothers give so much of themselves over to the care of their children, for years and years, often neglecting their own health and personal needs. Well Nourished Mamma offers nutritional therapy packages to support you to take control of your own health and wellbeing, no matter where you are on your motherhood journey. Nicola wants all mums to feel energised, healthy and happy so you can be the best version of you and enjoy this crazy ride called motherhood.

What is Nutritional Therapy

Quite simply, the aim of Nutritional Therapy is to help to bring the body back into balance using food. Food is so much more than fuel. Food IS medicine. What we put into our bodies has a huge impact on how we feel, our energy levels and overall physical and mental health. This isn’t about fad diets, counting calories and cutting out food groups. It’s about supporting you with your individual health goals, giving you the information and practical tools to eat and enjoy the food that fits into your lifestyle and makes you the best possible version of yourself!

No matter what stage you are at on your motherhood journey, how you nourish yourself directly impacts how your body operates. The scientific link between health and nutrition is undeniable and this is especially important during motherhood.

  • The food you eat plays a fundamental role in your ability to get pregnant and sustain a healthy full-term pregnancy.
  • Research into the impact of a mother’s diet on her unborn child is fascinating, it’s not just about what nutrients are needed for healthy foetal development, but the food you eat during pregnancy switches certain genes on or off in your baby!
  • Did you know that bacteria from a mother’s gut migrates to her breast and is transferred to the baby through breastmilk? So good gut health in mum has a direct positive impact on baby.
  • Diet has been shown to have an impact on a mothers susceptibility to post-natal depression
  • A growing foetus will take what nutrients it needs from the pregnant mothers’ body. This can lead to a condition called “postnatal depletion”, impacting on a number of things such as recovery time, hormonal imbalances, mental health and energy levels. What you eat during and after pregnancy can counteract this, ensuring that you are able to recover quickly from labour and continue to thrive as you manage the demands of mothering a newborn.
  • Your diet has a huge impact in your energy levels. Whether you are battling through sleepless nights or running round after a toddler, avoiding energy crashes is key to getting through the day!
  • The infant microbiome is shaped in the first three years of life. The diversity and abundance of good bacteria in a child’s gut is influenced by how they are born, whether they are breastfed and the first foods they eat.

Personalised Nutrition advice that’s as unique as you are.

We are all individuals. There is no “one size fits all” answer when it comes to diet. Science is now showing that our gut microbiome (the mix of bacteria, fungi, protozoa and parasites) within our gut plays a fundamental role in how our bodies breakdown and use foods. Your microbiome is as unique as your fingerprint – no two are the same, and its composition is influenced by a number of factors, including what you eat. Gut health lies at the centre of becoming a Well Nourished Mamma, and each package includes guidance and advice on how you can support your gut bacteria to improve your health. This is about investing in your health and the health of your family. You have the power to influence how you feel on a day-to-day basis and you can have an impact on existing or future health conditions by changing what you eat. Using an in-depth review of your medical history, full body system review and an analysis of your current diet, you will be given the education, tools and support to eat foods that truly nourish your body. This is about YOU and YOUR health. I want you to love the food that you eat and use it not only as a way to feel amazing but as a way to develop a deeper connection with yourself, your loved ones and with nature.
